As many are well aware, magnesium wheels are lightweight, and yet, also quite pricey and exotic, which is precisely why we don't see them offered on a factory-built vehicle terribly often. However, as Ford Authority reported back in July, the OEM Ford Mustang GTD magnesium wheels are delayed indefinitely due a supply-side limitation, but now, the aftermarket has come up with an alternative.A company called Litespeed Racing has announced that it has indeed developed a set of custom-forged magnesium wheels for the Ford Mustang GTD, a development that stems from customer requests. Luckily, Litespeed has over a decade of experience making magnesium wheels, so it was obviously up to the task. These new wheels feature superior strength and fatigue resistance, and are lighter than aluminum or carbon fiber alternatives, too.On top of that, Litespeed's Ford Mustang GTD magnesium wheels utilize an optimized spoke geometry to avoid any potential weaknesses - a process validated by FEA simulations and SAE protocols - and are fully compatible with the OEM tire pressure sensors and center caps. Customers can choose from a variety of custom color and finish options, as well as two different designs. One of them echoes the factory mag wheel look, while the other takes inspiration from vintage motorsports styling. In either case, these new Ford Mustang GTD magnesium wheels are custom built to a customer's specifications, with a starting price of $12,500 plus shipping for four. Those interested in ordering a set can do so now via Litespeed's official site, too."These wheels transform the GTD driving experience, offering the precise response and agility owners deserve," said Patrick Warren, Founder and CEO of Litespeed Racing. "We saw the demand firsthand and built a solution that elevates every mile, blending unmatched lightness with refined design." Report

Rumors of a Shelby GT500 revival have swirled for some time, but as Ford Authority exclusively reported in May 2024, it was beginning to look like Ford would no longer utilize the Shelby name. Turns out, that is exactly the case, as the just-unveiled 2026 Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC is Ford's Shelby GT500 successor. As Ford Authority reported yesterday, we got our first look at the 2026 Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC in a video where Red Bull Formula 1 driver Max Verstappen took the pony car for a test drive around a track, and it was clear that a supercharger lurked under its hood - unlike the regular Dark Horse. That is indeed the case, but the SC also trades the regular model's 5.0L V8 Coyote engine for the supercharged 5.2L V8. Ford tells us that it's similar, though not the same, as the blown 5.2L in the S550 GT500 and F-150 Raptor R.For now at least, Ford isn't saying just how much power that engine is producing in this guise, but it is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, just like the S550-generation GT500. It also gets a bevy of suspension upgrades including MagneRide dampers with upgraded hardware and software, revised springs with firmer rates, new stabilizer bars, updated front and rear knuckles, and modified front control arms.Additionally, the Dark Horse SC gets goodies like a lightweight magnesium strut tower brace, forged suspension links, and an updated steering rack, tie rods, and power steering gear - all using learnings from the Mustang GTD and GT4 racer. For those that want more, Ford will also offer an optional Track Pack for the Dark Horse SC, which gets its own MagneRide specification, along with standard carbon fiber wheels and custom Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires measuring 305/30R20 in the front and 315/30R20 in the rear.Variable Traction Control - developed for the Mustang GTD - allows drivers to dial in their desired amount of traction assistance, with five levels to choose from, or they can simply opt to disable it entirely. Braking duties are handled by Brembo units with six-piston calipers up front and four-piston units about back, while the Track Pack adds the same Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes from the GTD - touting 16.5-inch front discs. In addition to improved thermal performance, those brakes contribute to the Track Pack's 150-pound weight savings.Since the Mustang Dark Horse SC is a hardcore, track-friendly ride, Ford focused on cooling and aerodynamics as well, giving it a new front fascia with revised brake cooling, plus an aluminum hood with standard hood pins and a large vent. In the rear, a revised diffuser helps cool the axle, along with a big belly pan that spans the front splitter to the rear of the front wheels.2026 Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC Track PackThe Track Pack goes a step further by replacing the rear decklid with a ducktail-style piece for more downforce, coupled with a large carbon-fiber wing with exposed carbon endplates that improves efficiency by 10 percent. That setup was so effective that it was adopted for use on the GTD, and helps the Mustang Dark Horse SC generate 620 pounds of rear downforce at 180 mph.Inside, one will find the GTD's flat-bottom steering wheel, plus Alcantara and carbon-fiber accents, optional Recaro leather and Dinamica sport seats (included in the Track Pack), that replaces the rear seat with a storage shelf. Available packages include a Carbon Exterior Package, and Dark Horse SC Track Pack customers can spec the Teal Accent Package, too. For 2026, the Dark Horse SC is getting a limited Track Pack Special Edition combining those packages with other special touches, to boot.Prototype vehicle shown. Actual production vehicle may vary. Available summer 2026."Order banks for the 2026 Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC will open up this spring, with deliveries expected to begin in the summer. We should know more about the new pony car's specs - and it's pricing - very soon. Report
